Christine Gummere has been performing in New York City since 1977, playing music of many periods and styles, including French, German, and Italian baroque and classical on period cello. Groups she has performed with include Concert Royal, Early Music New York, the American Classical Orchestra, and the New York Collegium; Concordia (a chamber symphony conducted by Marin Alsop); and the Riverside Symphony, where she was principal cellist for nineteen years. She is the founder of Music at Brooklyn Friends, an early-music series at the Quaker Meeting House in downtown Brooklyn. In 2007, after twenty-two years of freelancing in New York‘s early-music scene, she co-founded, with Sandra Miller, Sinfonia New York.
